1. Place the beeswax and jojoba oil in the beaker and then set it in 2-3 inches of water in a saucepan. Heat over the stove until the water boils and stir until the beeswax is melted. 2. Remove from heat and stir in the honey and tea tree oil. 3. When nearly cool, add 3-4 drops of your preferred essential oil flavor. 4.
Set up and melt ingredients. Make sure all your equipment is clean and dry. Open lip balm containers, place rubber band around containers and arrange on paper towel. Melt beeswax, coconut oil, jojoba oil and shea butter over low heat until dissolved. Remove from heat and stir in essential oil.
A tinted lip balm is just enough to make your lips festive for a special occasion while still moisturizing and healing! Since lip balm is oil based, an oil-based colorant is the easiest way to add a pinch of color. I recommend cutting off a sliver of your favorite natural lipstick and adding it to your DIY lip balm while the wax is still hot.
Alkanet root powder and Madder root powder are wonderful additives when making naturally tinted DIY lip balm. They provide beautiful reds and browns and can be used to make quite a variety of shades. It took me some time to find my own personal favorite blend of the two powders. The tricky part is getting the powder to completely mix well.
